Navajoa

Registered name: Navajoa's Wolfe Queen

Coat color: Red & white

Eye color: Blue eyes

Birthdate: 11-07-95

We bought Navajoa when she was 7 years old. She is the mother of Allie and Mystic. She had many champions in her lines, her grandfather being American Canadian Champion Innisfree Fire And Frost. She carried lines from Innisfree, Sandcastle, Snoking, Arahaz, and more! When we bought Navajoa, it was love at first sight for Laura. She bonded with Navajoa instantly. Only a week after we bought her, Laura was taking her to handling classes and "practice" shows. Navajoa's former owner had signed over the paperwork, yet when we sent it in, we received a letter saying that he (her former owner) had sold this dog to someone else and the paperwork was registered in their name. Thusly, Navajoa wasn't our dog, at least, not on paperwork. When Laura found out, she burst out in tears. According to this letter, the dog she had bonded with so closely wasn't even hers. She lived for weeks in fear that someone would come and try to steal her. One day we went to the kennel, and somehow her door had been opened (even though we had a snap on the latch so the dogs couldn't lift it up) and Navajoa was running down the walk way. The same day, Laura found a lock to put on her pen. I sent a copy of my cancelled check and a copy of the sales agreement with Navajoa's former owner to the AKC. After a few weeks, the whole mess was straightened out and Navajoa was legally Laura's dog.

Laura worked with Navajoa every day and took her to the handling classes and "practice" shows with our old handler every week. Navajoa even started putting on weight, so Laura had to find a way to exercise her. She decided to take Navajoa for bike rides, so she'd get her bike out and steer with one hand and hold onto the leash with the other.

These handling classes kept going for her until one night when the judge couldn't make it. A lady who had brought her dachshund decided she would be the new judge. Now, anyone who knows about showing knows that different breeds stack differently. Obviously, a dachshund would stack very differently from a Siberian Husky. Yet when all the dogs were stacked this substitute judge when down through the line and pulled each dog's legs back so they were stacked like a dachshund. When she got to Navajoa, she jerked her legs back and must have pulled something in her legs. Laura heard her whimpering and knew something was wrong. When she tried taking Navajoa down and back, she noticed a slight limp. And when she tried to stack her, Navajoa would whimper, and once she snapped at Laura. That made up Laura's mind. She took Navajoa and walked out of the ring. There was no way she was going to work Navajoa when she was obviously in pain.

A few months later, on March 7, 2003 Navajoa was found dead in her pen one morning. Laura was heartbroken. She couldn't believe that the dog she's only had for one year, yet had bonded so closely with, was gone. She had my husband, Dale, bury her in the woods above our house. He marked her grave, and every year Laura takes flowers up and puts on her grave.

We will never be able to find a replacement for Navajoa. Who could live up to her? She set the bar quite high. Even though Navajoa was only here a year, she meant so much to our family that we will never be able to forget her. This page is dedicated to the memory of Navajoa Wolfe Queen! Rest in peace, our sweet girl.
